Use case

Contract translator with sensitive data masking

Contracts, NDAs, quotes and service agreements contain exactly the data teams hesitate to paste into a public translation box: party names, company identifiers, addresses, bank details, commercial terms and contact information.

Veil Translate parses Word, Excel and PowerPoint files in the browser, replaces confirmed sensitive entities with stable placeholders, sends only masked text to the provider you choose, and restores the real values locally after translation.

Why contracts are risky to translate

Sensitive values can appear in body text, tables, headers, footers and speaker notes. Copy-paste workflows make it hard to notice every occurrence before it leaves your device.

Legal teams also need layout preservation: numbering, tables, clauses and file order matter when a translated draft comes back for review.

How Veil Translate reduces exposure

Parsing, detection, masking, encrypted mapping storage and restoration happen locally in the browser. You review every candidate before translation and can manually add missed values.

The outbound request contains masked text and your own API key, sent directly to an OpenAI-compatible endpoint. In BYOK mode, no server-side translation proxy is involved.

Example translation segment

Source segment
Party A, Xinghe Technology, shall pay within 10 business days after receiving the invoice submitted by Li Ming; the receiving account is China Merchants Bank 6222 ****.
Masked outbound text
Party A ⟦ORG_1⟧ shall pay within 10 business days after receiving the invoice submitted by ⟦NAME_1⟧; the receiving account is ⟦BANK_1⟧.
Translated example
甲方⟦ORG_1⟧应在收到⟦NAME_1⟧提交的发票后 10 个工作日内付款;收款账户为⟦BANK_1⟧

Good fit and honest limits

Good fits include first-pass contract translation, NDAs, supplier agreements, quote terms and cross-border business drafts. DOCX, XLSX, PPTX and text-based PDF are all supported.

The remaining de-identified body text is still sent as plaintext to the provider you choose. Veil Translate protects detected and confirmed sensitive entities, not the full document body.

Frequently asked questions

Is my contract uploaded to your server?

No. Parsing, masking, mapping storage and restoration happen in your browser. The server only serves the static app and health check.

Can I mask a company name that was missed?

Yes. Add it manually on the review screen before translation, or allowlist public terms that should stay visible.

Will the Word formatting be preserved?

DOCX files are parsed and rebuilt locally with the document structure preserved as much as possible. Complex layouts should still be reviewed after download.
