What is Veil Translate?
Veil Translate is a free, browser-based private document translator and document anonymization tool for contracts, confidential document translation, and cross-border work. This private translation app masks detected and confirmed sensitive values on your device: names, ID numbers, phone numbers, and emails become placeholders before translation. No. The capped free mode uses a fixed Cloudflare Workers AI model and sends no user key. With BYOK, masked text and your key go straight from your browser to the provider you choose; the key stays only in current-tab memory and is discarded on reload.
Which file formats are supported?
Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx), PowerPoint (.pptx) and text-based PDF, with the original layout preserved in the translation. PDF layout is closely preserved (source text is removed and replaced in place); scanned PDFs are not supported.
Do I need an account or local password?
No. Veil Translate requires no account or local password. Your browser generates a temporary encryption key for the local mapping, keeps it only for the current session, and discards it after reload.
What determines translation quality?
With BYOK, quality depends on the OpenAI-compatible model you choose. Free managed translation uses a fixed Cloudflare Workers AI model. In both modes, placeholders are protected by the prompt and verified for integrity before restoration.
