AI PDF translation tool
AI PDF translator that keeps formatting and masks sensitive data locally
Veil Translate is an AI PDF translator for text-based documents. It removes the original text from the PDF, translates only the masked text through browser-direct BYOK or the fixed managed route, and places the translation back near the original paragraph positions.
Names, IDs, phone numbers, emails, bank details and organizations can be reviewed and masked locally first. The original PDF, plaintext sensitive values and mapping table stay in your browser; the remaining de-identified body text is still sent as plaintext.
Managed translation relays masked body text through Veil Translate to Cloudflare Workers AI. Undetected sensitive data and the remaining body text may still be processed there. Read Cloudflare's privacy policy.
How this AI PDF translator works
Upload a text-based PDF, choose the source and target languages, then review the sensitive values found in the extracted text. After you confirm the review list, the browser replaces those values with stable placeholders and sends the masked paragraphs for translation.
When the translation returns, placeholder integrity is checked, real values are restored locally, the source text is permanently removed from the PDF, and translated text is inserted at the original positions.
How to translate a PDF while keeping formatting
Page size, images, figures and the surrounding page structure stay in place. Because translated text can be longer or shorter, the result closely preserves the layout rather than promising a pixel-identical copy; long passages may use a smaller font.
Scanned PDFs, encrypted files, rotated text and vertical writing are not supported. If text cannot be selected in the original PDF, this workflow cannot translate it because OCR is outside the supported scope.
What leaves your browser
The PDF file itself is parsed and rebuilt locally. Confirmed sensitive entities become placeholders such as ⟦NAME_1⟧ and ⟦BANK_1⟧ before translation. BYOK sends masked text and the API key held in the current tab directly to your chosen OpenAI-compatible endpoint; managed mode relays masked text through Veil Translate to a fixed Cloudflare Workers AI model and never receives a user key.
This is not encrypted translation: the de-identified body text remains readable to the provider handling the request. Review the detected values and add any missed sensitive information before starting.
When to use this PDF translator
It is suited to selectable-text reports, contracts, financial documents and internal materials that need a first-pass translation with reduced exposure of confirmed sensitive values. Always review high-stakes legal or financial translations before relying on them.
Frequently asked questions
Can an AI PDF translator preserve formatting?
It keeps page structure, images and paragraph positions closely aligned with the original, but translated text length can change spacing or font size.
Can it translate a scanned PDF?
No. The PDF must contain selectable text. OCR for scans and image-only PDFs is not supported.
Is the original PDF uploaded to Veil Translate?
No. Parsing, masking, restoration and PDF rebuilding happen in your browser. BYOK sends masked text and your current-tab key directly to the provider you choose; managed mode relays masked text through Veil Translate to fixed Cloudflare Workers AI.
Which languages can I use?
You can translate between Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Spanish, Russian and Arabic.
