Excel translation tool
Excel translator for spreadsheets with sensitive data
Translate an XLSX workbook without copying cells into a translation box or rebuilding the spreadsheet by hand. Veil Translate processes cell text in your browser and writes the translation back into the existing workbook while formulas, number formats, merged cells and worksheet structure stay in place.
Before translation, review names, IDs, emails, phone numbers, bank accounts and organizations that should be masked. Only masked cell text is sent directly to the provider you choose; the workbook and mapping table remain local.
What the Excel translator changes
Text cell values across worksheets are extracted for translation. Formulas, numeric values, number formats, merged-cell definitions, sheet names and workbook structure are preserved rather than sent to the language model.
Translated text is written back to the corresponding cells. Because another language may use longer phrases, column widths and row heights should still be reviewed after download.
Mask sensitive spreadsheet values first
The review step groups suggested sensitive entities across the workbook. You can remove false positives, add missed values manually, or define a glossary term and its required translation before anything is sent.
Confirmed values become stable placeholders, allowing repeated names or account details to remain consistent across sheets and be restored locally after translation.
Privacy boundary
Workbook parsing, entity review, masking, mapping storage and XLSX rebuilding happen in the browser. Translation goes from your browser to an OpenAI-compatible endpoint using your own key.
This is not encrypted translation. The provider receives the de-identified cell text as plaintext, so confirm the review list and manually add any sensitive value that automatic detection missed.
Good fits for Excel translation
The workflow fits financial schedules, product catalogs, HR lists, supplier tables and multilingual operating sheets. Up to ten supported files can be translated sequentially and downloaded together as a ZIP.
Frequently asked questions
Will Excel formulas be translated or changed?
No. Formulas remain formulas; the translator replaces text cell values while preserving workbook structure and formats.
Does it translate every worksheet?
Yes. Text cells across the workbook are included. Numeric cells and formulas are left unchanged.
Is my spreadsheet uploaded to Veil Translate?
No. The workbook stays in your browser. Only masked text and your API key are sent directly to your selected translation provider.
Can I keep financial or product terms consistent?
Yes. Add source and target terms to the glossary; matching source terms are masked before translation and restored with your chosen wording.
